Mistakes on e-discovery projects are too costly for law firms and their clients. That’s why e-discovery project management is an essential skill for all litigation paralegals and other legal professionals on the team.
If you’re like most litigation paralegals, you struggle with:
- what to do when your attorney keeps adding electronic data at the last minute
- how to make sure privileged and confidential documents don’t get produced
- how to stay on budget when you don’t have control over many aspects of the e-discovery project
That’s why most paralegals just throw up their hands and hope for the best. Unfortunately, we all know that it doesn’t work like that. Instead,
- data gets produced late or wrong
- budgets get blown
- no one has a plan on what to do with all that data
When those things happen, who gets blamed for the mistakes?
Do your attorneys acknowledge that maybe they should have extended the deadline or added more staff to help you out with the quality control check? Probably not.
We know how hard it is for a litigation paralegal. Especially when the attorney doesn’t always involve you until the ESI is already in the review tool, and the production deadline is fast approaching.
Even if that’s your situation, we can help with that. You don't need to spend a small fortune on e-discovery certification programs that focus on the technical side and are geared towards litigation support technicians and e-discovery vendors.
The E-discovery Boot Camp takes all of the guesswork out of managing an e-discovery project. This online course gives you a step-by-step guide (with 50+ pages of a written plan, templates, and lots of e-discovery checklists!) to use from start to finish on all of your e-discovery projects.
We walk you through each step and give you the training and the tools to master each phase of your e-discovery project.
Imagine if your next e-discovery project had a written plan (a defensible audit trail!), and all of the checklists to help make sure nothing slips through the cracks.
The E-discovery Boot Camp is a game-changer for litigation paralegal careers.

The E-Discovery Paralegal Boot Camp is, by far, the most informative training I’ve attended. The material is presented professionally and sensibly. The instructors are knowledgeable about the subject matter and draw on real experiences to drive the point home. This training course is certainly helpful to paralegals as it specifically targets a paralegal’s role in the e-discovery process and provides tips for delivering superior support to their supervising attorneys from collection to production.Read Less

Module 1: An E-Discovery Overview
All litigation paralegals should have a basic foundation of ediscovery history, terminology, and background to become familiar with electronically stored information and the practice of e-discovery. This introduction reviews several industry workflow models to better understand how a paralegal can assist in managing each of those phases, together with a review of the significant case law that has affected e-discovery.
- Basics of electronically stored information (ESI)
- Workflow models that assist legal professionals with e-discovery projects
- Rules and principles that govern e-discovery
- Key issues in e-discovery case law that every litigation paralegal should be aware of
Module 2: Developing a Written Plan for your Ediscovery Project
Module 2 gives you an in-depth understanding of general project management principles that should be used in your e-discovery projects. This module goes through each of the e-discovery stages that should be in your Standard Operating Procedure (“SOP”) or "defensible audit trail" and provides you with the tools to draft your own SOP to use on every e-discovery project. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Apply general project management methodologies to the practice of e-discovery
- Understand project scope and scheduling resources to be able to develop a defensible project plan
- Start drafting your Standard Operating Procedures to use on your next e-discovery project, using our 50+ page template to get started
- Preparing a project budget and learn methods to monitor and control costs throughout the project
Module 3: Managing the Processing Phase of Your E-discovery Project
As we start our processing phase, Module 3 shows you how to apply project management principles to the processing phase, whether you are doing the processing internally or outsourcing it.
Additionally, this module provides tools to prepare you for the team status meeting that takes place during the processing project, follow-up planning questions, and issues to be aware of during the processing project to make sure you stay on time (and on budget!) to start the review phase.
Module 4: Managing the Review Phase of Your E-discovery Project
Module 4 takes you through the workflow for the review phase and provides instruction on the e-discovery project manager’s role in the review phase of the e-discovery project. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify methods to limit the scope of the document review
- Determine the strategy/plan of the review project
- Plan for the review workflow and how various elements can affect the review project
- Set up quality control steps to prevent costly mistakes
Module 5: Managing the Production Phase of Your E-discovery Project

Who is this course for?
This course is for any legal professional who wants to improve their project management skills on e-discovery projects, such as litigation paralegals, attorneys, litigation support professionals, and legal assistants.
Is the course approved for CLE credits?
The course is pending approval for 5.0 CLE credits. This also means that most states (like Florida, Texas, Ohio, and others) that accept reciprocal credit from NALA will also apply those credits to your state programs.
Is this the same as the ACEDS course?
No. We do not focus on the technology side of e-discovery projects. Instead, we focus on how to incorporate project management principles into each phase of an e-discovery project. While we agree that ACEDS certification can benefit some people, we don't think that is always feasible or affordable for most legal professionals because it takes more than 40 hours of study time and costs thousands of dollars.
Is this a live course that meets online at a specific time?
No. This is an on-demand course that you can take at your own pace and when it's convenient for you.
How will I get access to the course?
After you create an account, you will be immediately directed to your course dashboard to start the course. You will also receive an email with your login credentials.
Will I receive a Certificate when I finish the course?
Yes. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to download a Certificate of Completion.
How long will it take me to complete the course?
It will take approximately 6 hours to complete the course. You do not have to finish the entire online course in one sitting. You have access for one year, so you can jump in to watch a short video lesson, download some checklists, and come back to the course when you have more time.
